Barrel Pick | Blue Note Juke Joint Uncut
In June 2019, a devastating summer storm caused the collapse of a rickhouse storing a significant portion of Blue Note’s inventory. The destruction of thousands of barrels resulted in the loss of millions of dollars. But, among the rubble, a few barrels miraculously survived the collapse.
These survivors faced an even greater test as they were exposed to the elements for four months before the wreckage could be cleaned up. The scorching summer heat and relentless thunderstorms took their toll on the barrels, darkening the outside and forcing the bourbon deeper into the oak. As the weather cooled, the whiskey was forced back out of the worn oak.
After the cleanup, the company found that a select few barrels had indeed survived. Like these barrels, we have all faced challenges and hardships during the pandemic. To celebrate life and perseverance, Blue Note has curated a special release of survivor barrels under the new label of Blue Note Bourbon Uncut.
Not all barrels in this label will be survivors, so don’t miss out on the chance to taste a truly rare bourbon with an even rarer story. Try a bottle of this year’s 2021 survivor barrel release at The Vineyard Market where we have one of the few special release survivor barrels available.
