Cellar Society Newsletter February 2025
Raising a Glass from Willamette Valley to Bordeaux
February brought an exceptional lineup for our Cellar Society members. These selections showcased bold reds, refined whites, and a sparkling surprise. With wines from the Pacific Northwest, Italy, Chile, Argentina, and France, this month’s lineup highlighted exceptional craftsmanship and diverse styles.
Sophisticated & Bolder Things
Tyrus Evan Red Blend (Oregon, USA)
Tyrus Evan is a second label from Ken Wright Cellars, a highly regarded producer in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Known for Pinot Noir, the winery also excels with bold red blends. This Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon combination delivers deep blackberry and plum flavors, accented by spice, smoke, and velvety tannins. A structured, well-balanced wine with a lingering finish.
Cordillera Chardonnay Reserva Especial (Limarí Valley, Chile)
Produced by Miguel Torres Chile, this Chardonnay Reserva Especial comes from the Limarí Valley, where cool coastal breezes and limestone soils impart a unique minerality. Flavors of tropical fruit, citrus, and toasted vanilla balance a creamy texture with bright acidity. A fantastic pairing for seafood, roasted chicken, or creamy pasta dishes.
Bolder Things
Tyrus Evan Red Blend (Oregon, USA)
We know your thinking, “Uh… Vineyard I just saw this one in the last package.” You’d be correct, friend! This wine was one of our favorites, and because of that, we had to put it in as many of our members’ hands as possible. Hence this second showing of this well-balanced and versatile red that is perfect for any occasion.
Borgo Scopeto Borgonero (Tuscany, Italy)
Borgo Scopeto, a historic winery in the Chianti Classico region, produces wines that reflect Tuscany’s essence. The Borgonero is a Super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot, offering layers of black cherry, plum, and tobacco with hints of chocolate and spice. Firm tannins and bright acidity make it an excellent pairing for grilled meats, pasta, and aged cheeses.
Finer Things
Siesta Cabernet Franc (Mendoza, Argentina)
Crafted by Ernesto Catena Vineyards, a leader in biodynamic and sustainable winemaking, this Cabernet Franc is aged in French oak for added depth. Rich flavors of blackberry, cassis, and violets mingle with earthy and peppery undertones. The silky tannins and long finish make it a standout for lovers of full-bodied reds.
Château Armens Saint-Émilion Grand Cru (Bordeaux, France)
Château Armens, located in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, is known for structured, elegant wines. This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon features deep plum, dark chocolate, and truffle notes, with refined tannins and a lingering finish. A classic right-bank Bordeaux that pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, duck, or mushroom-based dishes.
A Sparkling Surprise
At the Member’s Monday Wine Dinner, guests enjoyed a special pour of Roederer Estate Brut Sparkling Wine, paired with a house-made honey lavender crème brûlée.
Roederer Estate Brut (Anderson Valley, California, USA)
Produced by Roederer Estate, the California branch of Champagne Louis Roederer, this Méthode Traditionnelle sparkling wine is crafted from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Elegant and crisp, it features green apple, citrus, and brioche notes with lively acidity and fine bubbles. The pairing with honey lavender crème brûlée created a beautiful contrast between floral sweetness and refreshing effervescence.
