Cigar Society Newsletter | October 2026

Three selections. Three distinct experiences. One season made for a slow burn.

October has a way of changing the atmosphere. The evenings grow longer, the air turns cool, and a little mist settles over the landscape as the last light fades. It’s the kind of season that calls for good company, a favorite pour, and a cigar worth taking your time with.

This month, Cigar Society brings together three distinctive selections, each with its own character. From a limited-edition Halloween release to the balanced complexity of Honduran tobacco and the rich spice of a sun-grown wrapper, October’s lineup has plenty to discover.

Settle in, let the smoke rise, and meet this month’s selections.

Alec Bradley Filthy Ghooligan

Limited edition. A little mischief in every draw.

October wouldn’t be complete without a visit from something lurking in the shadows. Enter the Alec Bradley Filthy Ghooligan, a limited-edition release created with Halloween in mind. A follow-up to the popular Filthy Hooligan and Shamrock series, this cigar takes the familiar barber-pole look in a darker, spookier direction.

The Filthy Ghooligan features a striking combination of Ecuadorian Habano and U.S. Broadleaf wrappers, wrapped around an Indonesian Besuki binder. Its seven-tobacco blend brings together Nicaraguan fillers from Jalapa, Estelí, and Condega, along with Dominican Piloto tobacco. The result is a medium-bodied smoke with notes of cocoa and honey-like sweetness.

Expect a satisfying balance of earthy richness and gentle sweetness, making this an inviting choice for a fall evening. The cocoa notes call to mind dark chocolate, while the honey-like finish adds a touch of warmth without overwhelming the blend.

The pairing: Try it with a bourbon or rye whiskey, particularly one with caramel, vanilla, or toasted oak notes. For something without the spirits, a dark roast coffee can bring out the cocoa character while complementing the cigar’s natural sweetness.

Alec Bradley has built its reputation on blending creativity with quality craftsmanship. Founded in 1996 by Alan Rubin, the company takes its name from his children, Alec and Bradley. Its portfolio is known for distinctive blends and memorable releases, and the Filthy Ghooligan certainly embraces that imaginative spirit.

With its limited-edition status and Halloween-inspired personality, this is a fitting selection for the month when the nights grow darker and the smoke seems to linger just a little longer.

Zino Honduras

Warm woods, soft citrus, and a smooth, lingering finish.

Not every October evening calls for something dark and mysterious. Sometimes, the best moments come from a well-balanced cigar, a quiet patio, and the last traces of daylight disappearing into the mist.

The Zino Honduras brings a different kind of character to this month’s lineup. Made by Oettinger Davidoff, the brand is built around exploration, consistency, and blends that invite you to discover something new. The Honduras line draws on tobacco from two distinct Honduran growing regions: the Jamastrán Valley and Copán.

These tobaccos bring different qualities to the blend. Jamastrán contributes spicy, intense flavors, while Copán adds sweet, woody, and earthy notes. The Copán tobacco is aged for approximately three to five years, helping develop a smoother, creamier character.

The resulting flavor profile highlights rosewood, orange, and cream. The woody notes provide depth, the orange offers a gentle citrus brightness, and the creamy finish brings everything together. With its moderate intensity and layered flavor, the Zino Honduras offers complexity without losing its balance.

The pairing: A caramel latte is a natural companion. Roasted coffee notes complement the woodiness, while steamed milk and caramel echo the cigar’s creamy sweetness. If you’re in the mood for something stronger, a smooth whiskey with notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak can complement the blend without overpowering its more delicate flavors.

Zino’s philosophy centers on consistency while encouraging cigar lovers to explore beyond the familiar. The Honduras blend reflects that approach, combining tobaccos from different regions to create a distinctive profile that stands apart from the brand’s Nicaragua offerings.

For October, think of this one as the quiet stretch of water beneath a low evening fog: smooth, layered, and worth lingering over.

Rocky Patel Sun Grown

Pepper, espresso, and the warmth of an autumn night.

As the evening deepens, October’s final selection brings a bolder presence to the table. The Rocky Patel Sun Grown is a medium-to-full-bodied cigar with a rich, spicy profile that suits the season’s cooler nights.

Its blend features a sun-grown Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper aged for five years, paired with a Nicaraguan binder and a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. The aged wrapper contributes depth and complexity, setting the stage for a flavor profile built around white pepper, spice, roasted espresso, and molasses-like sweetness.

The opening brings a lively peppery character, followed by earthy richness and the deep, roasted notes of espresso. As the cigar develops, a subtle sweetness helps balance the spice, leaving a long, full finish. Cedar and leather can also emerge in the blend, adding another layer to the experience.

This is a selection for those who appreciate a cigar with some weight behind it. Take your time with the draw and let the flavors develop, especially as the evening air turns crisp.

The pairing: Pour a bourbon with notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and caramel. Those flavors complement the cigar’s pepper and espresso while playing nicely with its sweeter undertones. A straight espresso is another excellent option, especially for those who enjoy a more concentrated coffee pairing.

Rocky Patel Premium Cigars has grown into a widely recognized name in the premium cigar industry, known for its extensive range of blends and its attention to tobacco selection and aging. The Sun Grown line showcases that approach through a wrapper whose growing conditions and extended aging contribute significantly to the finished cigar’s character.

With its bold spice, roasted notes, and lingering finish, the Rocky Patel Sun Grown is a fitting companion for an October night spent outdoors, with the water dark beneath the sky and a slow ribbon of smoke drifting into the cool air.

Three Cigars, One Season

This month’s selections offer three different ways to enjoy the season. The Alec Bradley Filthy Ghooligan brings Halloween mischief and cocoa sweetness. The Zino Honduras offers a balanced blend of rosewood, orange, and cream. The Rocky Patel Sun Grown rounds things out with pepper, espresso, and a richer finish.

Each has a personality of its own, and each offers something worth slowing down for. Pair one with your favorite pour, settle into the evening, and enjoy the ritual that makes a good cigar more than just a smoke.
