December Cellar society wine

December Wine Club Wine Is In!

No Longer Elf on the Shelf, Now it’s Wine is Thine!

Hello and Welcome, Friends! For December’s Cellar Society picks Heather decided to switch it up, and make this month’s theme a celebration to pair with the holiday season! We will be featuring wines with 90 points or higher and wines from Wine Enthusiast Top 100!

Sophisticated & Bolder Things:

Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc

This beautiful New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc takes #10 spot! On the nose, you’ll get hints of floral aromas, and stone fruit. Like most Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, this one starts off strong with citrus notes such as lemon and grapefruit followed by mango, honey, and ginger.

Tenuta di Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva 2019

Mixing it up a bit we threw in this 93 point wine! An excellent example of Chianti, which if you’re in the wine world means Sangiovese.  Like Champagne only sparkling wine from Champagne, France is true Champagne; the same is for Chianti. Chianti is only true Chianti if it comes from the Chianti region in Tuscany, Italy. On the nose aromas of berry, cherry, and earth are the most pronounced. On the palate, this wine starts off spicy with pepper and clove, followed by notes of floral violet, tart cherry, red berry, leather, oak, and tobacco.

Bolder Things:

Hartford’s Court Land’s Edge Pinot Noir 2021

Hartford Family Winery is located in a town called Forestville on the Sonoma Coast in California. They have a next level division called Hartford’s Court. This division is the one that plays with how terroir affects the outcome of the wine. That means these are small batches, and how exciting you get one in your package this month! This wine received 95 points from Wine Enthusiast and when we tried it we had to share! On the nose you’ll find notes of cherry, pomegranate, and roses. On the palate, you’ll get layer flavors of dark berry, plum, licorice, and mocha.

Alvar de Dios Tio Uco

A fantastic red blend from Castilla y Leon, Spain. This blend is 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha(the Spanish style Grenache varietal) and was definitely a fan favorite for the Member’s Monday dinner. It received 94 points this last year! On the nose you get aromas of dark and red fruit, spice, and earth. On the palate these notes translate to blackberries, dark cherry, black pepper, cinnamon, coffee, and some minerality.

Finer Things:

Frank Family Cabernet Sauvignon

This is a wonderful example of Napa Valley Cabernet! Taking it’s place at #61 on the Top 100 list it received 95 points. On the nose you get aromas of blackberry, cassis, and vanilla. On the palate black plum, nutmeg, dark chocolate, and a hint of espresso.

2016 Jonata Todos Red Blend

Jonata is a vineyard in the Ballard Canyon region of Santa Barbara County. The area was known as New Spain when settlers set there and historically with the Terroir the vineyard was named Jonata or the beauty of the sand. Jonata is a sister vineyard to Screaming Eagle. It is their 2016 Todos Red Blend that made it into our Finer things selection! Todos means all or total. This wine is a blend of all the grapes on their vineyard. However it is mostly Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. On the nose you’ll get aromas of dark fruit, spices, violets, and smoke. On the palate, you;ll find notes of blackberry, black cherry, mesquite, black truffle, sweet smoke, and five spice balanced perfectly with the tannins this region is known for.
