October Wine Club Wine | El Dio del Vino
Welcome friends! In this month of Spooky October with Dia de Los Muertos approaching I thought we should celebrate The Day of Wine! This month’s Cellar Society has some amazing picks from Argentina and Chile that I am personally so excited to share with you! So without further ado, I present:
Sophisticated & Bolder Things
Domaine Bousquet Unoaked Chardonnay
A beautiful 100% Chardonnay from the Uco Valley Region of Argentina, which is about 4,000 feet in altitude high in the foothills of Andean Mountains. This wine is USDA certified Organic, which is how most of the world farms, naturally and sustainably. On the nose you’ll find aromas of tropical fruits, citrus, and floral notes. Then on the palate, you’ll get notes of peach, green apple, jasmine blossom, honey, and grapefruit.
Vina Vik Omega Cabernet Blend
Omega is from the Colchagua Valley in Chile whose blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Carmenere, & 12% Syrah. The owner of Vina Vik Winery, Alexander Vik, said this “Science and knowledge are our foundation, passion is our engine, and the wine is the expression of our Art.” A quote that sums up the wineries concept to integrate both old and new techniques, ideas, and sciences. Omega was aged in French Oak barrels, presenting on the palate as light oak with red berries, dark fruit, cocoa, and baking spice.
Bolder Things
Domaine Bousquet Reserve Malbec
A medium bodied Malbec blend from the Tupungato Valley, Argentina comprised of 85% Malbec, 5% Merlot, 5% Syrah, & 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. On the nose you’ll get hints of earth, berries, and oak. Then on the palate notes of red and black fruit, mushroom, oaky vanilla, and wet stone.
Gaia Red Blend
This red blend is 50% Malbec, 45% Syrah, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina. Hand picked, and then aged in french oak barrels for 8 months. On the nose you’ll find aromas of black fruit, spice, and herbs, which on the palate brings forth notes of blackcurrant, plum, herbs, peppercorn, oak, and tobacco.
Finer Things
Vina Vik Milla Cala
Another delightful red blend primarily made of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere varietals from Millahue, Chile. The owners of Vina Vik searched for 2 years for the best terroir and found a place called “Lugar de Oro” by the native Mapuche people which means Golden Place. That’s where the grapes are hand harvested for this wine. They are then fermented and aged for 20 months in French oak barrels. On the nose aromas of red and black fruit, flora, earth, and herbs. On the palate these translate to currant, cherry, eucalyptus, and light mushroom.
Vina Aquitania Lazuli Cabernet Sauvignon
The Lazuli Cabernet Sauvignon’s name is derived from the Lapis Lazuli gemstone, making this Vina Aquitania’s gem. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon hand harvested from the vineyards in Maipo Valley, Chile before they are aged in oak barrels for 16 months. They then undergo a second aging process in the bottle, which the partners regularly taste until they all agree it is ready for release. On the nose aromas of black fruit, herbs and spices, and cedar. On the palate notes of cassis, black cherry, mint, pepper, and leather.
