Each offers a unique exploration of flavors, craftsmanship, and terroir. So, without further ado, let’s dive into this month’s picks!

Sophisticated & Bolder Things

Gainey Estate Chardonnay

We are starting with the Gainey Estate Chardonnay. Hailing from the Santa Ynez Valley, this Chardonnay is a perfect representation of the region’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The Gainey family, pioneers in the Santa Ynez Valley, have been producing exceptional wines since 1984, emphasizing sustainable viticulture and meticulous winemaking.

In the glass, the Gainey Estate Chardonnay displays a brilliant golden color. The nose is captivated by aromas of ripe apple, pear, and a hint of citrus, complemented by subtle notes of vanilla and toasted oak. On the palate, the wine is creamy and well-balanced, with flavors of tropical fruit, lemon zest, and a touch of minerality. The refreshing acidity and smooth finish make it an ideal match for seafood dishes, roasted chicken, or creamy pasta.

Gainey Estate Merlot

The second wine in the “Hybrid Package” is the Gainey Estate Merlot. This wine showcases the elegance and versatility of Merlot from the Santa Ynez Valley, offering a delightful blend of fruit and structure. The Gainey family’s estate is located on a diverse range of soil types, allowing them to produce wines that are complex and expressive of their terroir.

This Merlot has a deep garnet color, enticing the nose with aromas of black cherries, plums, and a hint of mocha, accompanied by subtle notes of spice and oak. On the palate, the wine is velvety and smooth, with flavors of dark fruit, chocolate, and a touch of vanilla. The balanced acidity and soft tannins create a luxurious finish. Pair this Merlot with roasted lamb, grilled pork chops, or a rich mushroom risotto for a truly memorable dining experience.

Bolder Things

J. Wilkes Pinot Noir

Our first selection for the “Bolder Things” package is the J. Wilkes Pinot Noir. This wine is a testament to the exceptional terroir of the Santa Maria Valley. Known for its cool climate and long growing season, the region imparts a unique elegance and complexity to its Pinot Noirs. The winery, founded by Jeff Wilkes, a passionate advocate for Central Coast wines, focuses on showcasing the distinct characteristics of each vineyard site.

Upon pouring, the J. Wilkes Pinot Noir reveals a beautiful ruby hue. The nose is greeted with aromas of ripe cherries, cranberries, and a hint of earthiness, accompanied by delicate floral notes. On the palate, the wine is silky smooth, with flavors of red berries, pomegranate, and a touch of spice. The balanced acidity and fine tannins create a harmonious finish, making it an excellent pairing with roasted duck, grilled salmon, or mushroom risotto.

J. Wilkes Cabernet Sauvignon

Next, we present the J. Wilkes Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that embodies the robust character of the Paso Robles region. Known for its warm days and cool nights, Paso Robles produces Cabernet Sauvignons that are rich, bold, and full of flavor. The J. Wilkes winery is celebrated for its dedication to sustainable farming practices and its commitment to crafting wines that reflect the true essence of their origins.

This Cabernet Sauvignon boasts an intense deep purple color. The bouquet is filled with aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries, and a hint of vanilla, intertwined with notes of tobacco and cedar. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and luscious, with layers of dark fruit, chocolate, and a touch of oak. The well-structured tannins provide a long, satisfying finish. Enjoy this wine with a juicy ribeye steak, hearty beef stew, or aged cheddar cheese.

Finer Things

Ojai Kessler-Haak Pinot Noir

This wine is a remarkable expression of the Kessler-Haak Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills, a region celebrated for producing world-class Pinot Noirs. The Ojai Vineyard, founded by Adam Tolmach, has been at the forefront of the California wine scene since 1983, known for its minimalist winemaking approach and focus on terroir-driven wines.

The Ojai Kessler-Haak Pinot Noir exhibits a stunning ruby-red color. The nose is greeted with aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberries, and a hint of rose petals, complemented by subtle notes of spice and earth. On the palate, the wine is elegant and well-balanced, with flavors of red berries, cherries, and a touch of minerality. The vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins create a long, graceful finish. This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roasted duck, grilled salmon, or a variety of artisanal cheeses.

Ojai Roll Ranch Syrah

Last but certainly not least, we present the Ojai Roll Ranch Syrah, a wine that exemplifies the bold and complex character of Syrah from the Santa Barbara County region. The Ojai Vineyard sources its grapes from carefully selected sites, including the renowned Roll Ranch, known for producing exceptional Syrah with distinctive character.

The Ojai Roll Ranch Syrah has an inky, dark purple color. The bouquet is rich and inviting, with aromas of blackberries, blueberries, and a hint of black pepper, intertwined with notes of smoked meat and oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, with layers of dark fruit, spices, and a touch of leather. The robust tannins and balanced acidity provide a long, lingering finish. This Syrah is a perfect companion to grilled meats, hearty stews, or a charcuterie board filled with bold flavors.
